Manheim, Pa, December 13, 2021—The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) is pleased to announce the addition of Assembler, Pre-Engineered Buildings to the PA-Registered apprenticeship programs available through the Chapter. ABC Keystone worked with the Metal Building Institute to construct the program which was approved by the PA Department of Labor & Industry and accepted by the State Apprenticeship Council in September 2021.

This is the first PA-registered apprenticeship program to be offered in Pennsylvania specifically for Pre-engineered Buildings Assemblers and will provide education and training to fulfill the high-demand need for a skilled workforce able to safely build prefab metal commercial buildings, a highly-popular form of construction that has been in use for over 40 years. The program is only one of a handful of Assembler, Pre-engineered Buildings apprenticeship programs available nationwide.

The two-year apprenticeship program will be facilitated by the Keystone Apprenticeship Trust. Classes are scheduled to start in Fall 2022 with the first graduating class to receive their completion certificates in 2024. The employment prospects are great for those with this formalized training, and graduates will bring enhanced safety, knowledge, and skills to their employers.

Pre-Engineered Building assemblers construct commercial metal structures using prefabricated framing and siding elements while utilizing skills and training in sheet metal working, ironworking, blueprint reading, structural design principles and safety. Assemblers are in high demand as these cost-effective, steel structures are widely utilized throughout the construction industry.

ABC Keystone educates individuals through PA-registered apprenticeship programs in the following trades: Assembler, Pre-engineered Buildings (coming Fall of 2022), Carpentry, Construction Craft Laborer, HVAC, Heavy Equipment Operator (offered off-site), Electrical, Masonry, Pipe-fitting, Plumbing, and Sheet Metal. Students benefit from earn-while-you-learn education allowing many to graduate nearly debt-free while also securing competitive wages while they attend classes.
