FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 2, 2019

(MANHEIM, PA.) The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the winners of its 2019 Safety Training & Evaluation (STEP) Awards and recognized its 2019 OSHA Partners on Wednesday, May 1. Representatives from several member companies accepted their awards at the ABC Safety Awards Dinner presented by Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC held at the Eden Resorts in Lancaster.

Associated Builders and Contractors is pleased to recognize this prestigious group of Pennsylvania contractors for their commitment to ABC’s high safety standards,” said ABC Keystone Chapter’s President-CEO, G. David Sload. “ABC’s goal is to send every construction industry employee home in the same—or better—condition than which they arrived, and we applaud the company-wide commitment to jobsite safety made by each of these award-winning member companies.”

The anchor of ABC’s Safety Awards program is a national model called STEP (Safety Training & Evaluation Process). ABC’s Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) is a safety benchmarking and improvement tool that dramatically improves safety performance among construction industry participants regardless of company size or type of work, and it is the only such program in the country that provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts.

STEP was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company’s safety and loss prevention. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidence rates. The STEP process is a critical component of having a world-class safety program, and that return on investment for companies participating in the STEP program is enormous.

Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their incident rates (TRIR and EMR). Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Participant based on this data.
