FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – NOVEMBER 3, 2017

(MANHEIM, PA.) The best of ABC Keystone’s fourth-year apprentices competed at the annual Apprenticeship Craft Competition, held at ABC Keystone’s training facility on October 27, for an opportunity to move on to the 2018 ABC National Craft Competition to be held March 21, 2018, in Long Beach California. The apprentice competitors represented four trades: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and sheet metal.

ABC Keystone has a history of producing National Craft Championship medal winners representing the South Central PA area. Last year, two Keystone apprentices achieved high honors by earning a Safety Award and Gold Medal in Carpentry and also a Silver Award in Carpentry.

2017 ABC Keystone Apprenticeship Craft Competition top scorers:

  • Carpentry: Jonathan Godinez (Lancaster), Benchmark Construction Co., Inc. (Brownstown)
  • Carpentry: Alexander Tomassetti (Ephrata), Benchmark Construction Co., Inc. (Brownstown)
  • Electrical: Nathan Ellenberger (Mt. Joy), Haller Enterprises, Inc. (Lititz)
  • Plumbing: David Mummaw (Columbia), Frey Lutz Corp (Lancaster)
  • Sheet Metal: Shawn Ash (Wrightsville), Frey Lutz Corp (Lancaster)

The competition has two components: the written test, which counts for 25% of their total score; and the practical “hands-on” competition, which counts for 75% of their total score. In addition to showcasing their top-quality work, the competitors must also adhere to strict safety standards. They are challenged throughout the day by having to maintain focus in a busy environment with spectators just as they will be at the National Competition.
