(MANHEIM, Pa.) The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the 2021 STEP Safety Management System participants and recognized its 2021 OSHA Partners on Tuesday, August 17, during ABC Keystone’s Safety Recognition Breakfast presented by Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC. During the event, representatives from Keystone Chapter member companies had the opportunity to hear remarks from Kevin Chambers, Area Director, U.S. Department of Labor OSHA – Harrisburg Area Office.

Associated Builders and Contractors is pleased to recognize this prestigious group of Pennsylvania contractors for their “Ass“Associated Builders and Contractors is pleased to recognize this prestigious group of Pennsylvania contractors for their commitment to ABC’s high safety standards,” said ABC Keystone Chapter’s President-CEO, G. David Sload. “This year, the Keystone Chapter had a record-breaking number of Platinum Level recipients as well as a top Diamond Level company. This is consistent with the continued focus on safety as a top priority of our membership, and it is ABC’s goal to send every construction industry employee home in the same—or better—condition than which they arrived.”

The anchor of ABC’s safety benchmarking program is a national model called the STEP Safety Management System. STEP is a safety benchmarking and improvement tool that dramatically improves safety performance among construction industry participants regardless of company size or type of work. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company’s safety and loss prevention. Participating companies score their level of achievement for each component on a weighted point scale and document their incident rates (Total Recordable Incident Rate-TRIR and Experience Modification Rate-EMR). Companies receive a recognition level of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Participant based on this data. The STEP process is the only such program in the country that provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts.

The 2021 STEP recipients are as follows:

Diamond:
The top Diamond STEP level requires a company to maintain an incidence rate at least 50 PERCENT BELOW the national average at an EMR of .80 or lower.
