A Message from the ABC Keystone Chair of the Board

Message from the Chair: Wake Up & Plan for Your Future

Everyone needs a career or a purpose to get up in the morning. In today’s fantasy world of TV, video games, 24-hour news, and Hollywood’s imaginary world, purpose seems like a dream. Drones, electric cars, computers, and many other things make reality seem far away! Well, let’s get back to reality, not ‘Reality TV’ (which is really far from reality). Let’s instead get hitched up to actual reality and chart our journey and our destination.

What is your favorite or inspirational quote?
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
– Ferris Bueller (John Hughes)

I am sure it is not every day someone in the professional world says their favorite quote is from the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” but this quote is truly one of my favorites. One of my greatest fears in life is looking back one day and feeling like I missed opportunities or did not appreciate the special moments which didn’t seem big at the time. This quote helps to keep me grounded and to remember to stop and appreciate even the small things through all the noise and stress of a fast-moving life!

Bullying in the workplace

Bullying in the Workplace

Have you ever been bullied? When the word “bullying” is brought up, most people automatically think this pertains to the kids throwing snowballs at recess or at the bus stop, the popular football quarterback shoving a nerd into a locker in between classes, or the mean girls in the cafeteria who won’t share a seat at their table. ABC of Pennsylvania will be pushing to get our priorities added to that proposing to tax the Marcellus Shale, which ABC of Pennsylvania is on record as opposing. Other highlights include:

An Evolving Risk Management Program

Advocacy Update: Marching On

On February 4, Governor Tom Wolf publicly released his 2021-22 proposed budget. The nearly $40 billion budget will fund the state from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022. The budget represents a 12% increase over last year. Not surprisingly, the governor again is proposing to tax the Marcellus Shale, which ABC of Pennsylvania is on record as opposing. Is Your Financial House in Order?

I am not a financial planner, but in the last few years, I have become passionate about finances. I see the staggering debt statistics out there, and I want those to go away. I want to see people get out of debt, stay out of debt, and have a plan for financial freedom and retirement. I have the desire for everyone to do this, including our government. How much less stress would we feel in our lives if we felt that we are on a good path with our personal finances and the finances of our country?
