(YORK, PA) Congressman Scott Perry was in East Manchester Township today to see firsthand the continued need for infrastructure development in central Pennsylvania. Perry toured the Orchard Business Park, a logistics park adjacent to Interstate 83 under construction by Kinsley Construction, Inc. The project will ultimately provide much-needed logistics and warehouse space, serving as a vital distribution point for goods to the more than 51 million households within a day’s drive of the site.
Perry was escorted through the active construction site by representatives of Kinsley and the Keystone chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), a construction trade association focused on highlighting and defending free enterprise and the merit shop. “This amazing project is a testament to the craftsmanship and skill of America’s open shop construction industry, which makes up almost 90% of the industry nationwide,” said G. David Sload, President-CEO of ABC Keystone. “The fact that this project is so important to the region and our continued economic growth also highlights the need for critical investment in a new generation of skilled trades professionals.”
“The rising demand for construction of facilities like this means that we need more skilled workers to build them,” said Jon Kinsley, Kinsley COO and President. “ABC Keystone and Kinsley are working to develop the men and women who fill those skilled workforce positions, which provide strong life- and family-sustaining incomes as well as opportunities for continued career growth.”
Upon completion, the project will offer nearly 1 million square feet of indoor space and could accommodate more than 200 trucks. With a start to finish schedule of an estimated 12 months, the construction features approximately 50-75 employees on-site daily. “I’ve always been a strong supporter of ABC and the construction industry, so seeing this project coming together encourages me to advocate in Congress for more opportunities in the industry,” said Congressman Perry. “I’ve proudly cast votes on legislation to encourage fair and open competition in construction and provide additional resources for apprenticeship and other ‘earn and learn’ programs that help to strengthen the industry, but, I also know that our work is far from over. Seeing projects like this firsthand only bolsters my commitment to delivering a responsible infrastructure bill and paving the way for more opportunities in the construction industry.”
