Competent Person Training for Silica

Thursday, August 16, 2018 / 7:30 am – 11:30 am

Gain the knowledge and skills required to be considered a competent person for silica.
As of September 23, 2017, OSHA’s Silica regulations have been put into place, and employers are required to have a Competent Person to oversee the day to day operations and to minimize the exposures related to respirable crystalline silica.

Discover More About:

  • OSHA’s Silica Standard
  • The role of the silica competent person
  • The applicable regulatory requirements that apply
  • Identifying the silica-containing materials common to a jobsite
  • The hazards associated with silica exposures and the signs and symptoms of exposure
  • The means to which one can determine if silica is present
  • Tasks that most commonly create exposure levels at or above OSHA’s Action Level and can identify the conditions that cause an increased exposure level
  • What engineering controls are most effective in addressing silica exposures
  • Addressing multi-employer work sites and the methods to be used to limit exposing other workers
  • Requirements for implementing a respiratory protection program and respirator selection…and much more!

Key Take-aways:

The course will review OSHA’s requirements for a silica competent person. This will include a review of the standard, the responsibilities of the employer and the role of the competent person, and the recognition of and mitigation methods to be used to address silica exposures at job sites.

Who Should Attend:

If your company has the potential for employees to perform work tasks that would create an exposure to respirable crystalline silica, then this training is a must. Site supervision, superintendents, foreman, or any other supervision personnel that would be performing the competent person duties should attend this training.
