Field Engineering: Hands-on Field Labs & Classroom Learning

March 27, 30, April 4, 6, and 10, 2019

Weeknights: Classroom (7:00 pm – 9:30 pm)
Saturdays: Field Site (8:00 am – 11:00 am)

Field Engineering ABC Keystone

Mistakes in class on Saturday cost nothing and are a learning experience, but mistakes on Monday cost time, money and aggravation! Benefit from this course’s important inclusion of hands-on training that forges a connection between classroom materials to real world application. Students completing ABC Keystone’s Field Engineering course will walk away with practical skills that will be implemented immediately!

Gain confidence in layout work, learn the proper way to prepare field notes, and refresh basic math skills related to layout work. Gain experience in field labs with transits, levels, and lasers by setting grades from benchmarks, estimating new benchmarks, writing proper field notes, setting and turning angles, building layouts, and use basic math associated with construction layout and real work problems. Lab exercises will be outside and model real work conditions.

Participation numbers are limited.

This training can also be customized just for your company – your site or ABC Keystone!

Learn how to:

  • Prepare field notes.
  • Use transits, levels, and lasers in setting grades from benchmarks.
  • Set and turn angles, building layouts and basic math.
  • Recognize common errors and how to eliminate common field mistakes.
  • Perform math checks to minimize or eliminate errors.
  • Set proper grade points using the right equipment for each task.

“I learned a lot about transits and how to use them… I thought this training was great!”
– Cord Earhart, E & G Concrete, Inc.

“The classes drove home how important it is to be very accurate with site layout and how much grade difference can throw off measurements.”
– Jarod Sweinhart, Arthur Funk & Sons, Inc.

“This seminar helped me understand the entire building “picture” and that will benefit me in the underground plumbing work we do.”
– Rich Morrow, Plumbing Journeyman, Walton & Co.

“There is so much more to transits and levels then I realized! The course has equipped me with enough working knowledge to build on for the future…excellent and very informative.”
– L. Brent Good, Arthur Funk & Sons

Students should bring a scientific calculator or Smart Phone.

*Limited to 15 students due to hands-on activities.
