Session 1: Seminar Overview, Building Codes & Basic Structural Engineering Concepts

  • Codes pertaining to structural design and construction
  • Structural member types, forces and structural stability

Session 2: Soils & Concrete Construction (Part 1)

  • Geotechnical reports and the information pertinent to structural engineering
  • Materials used in concrete construction

Session 3: Concrete Construction (Part 2) & Masonry Construction

  • Reinforced concrete construction
  • Precast concrete and masonry construction

Session 4: Steel Construction

  • Hot-rolled steel construction
  • Steel joists and joist girders

Session 5: Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings & Cold-Rolled Steel

  • PEMB and conventional steel framing
  • Cold-rolled steel framing and associated design concerns

Session 6: Wood Construction & Fasteners

  • Wood construction
  • Structural fasteners for various construction types

Session 6: Optional: Training Facility Building Tour – relates class discussion to a see and understand tour


Instructor:

Daniel J. Fichtner, P.E., Executive Vice President, founded Providence Engineering Corporation in 1992 to provide structural engineering services to contractors, owners, architects and fabricators. Dan has experience in both design and construction and has held positions of responsible charge at other firms before founding Providence Engineering Corporation. He brings his experience in overseeing design staff and coordinating project needs with the appropriate personnel to achieve a practical, economical solution.
