Last week, members of ABC Keystone held the inaugural meeting of the Legislative & Advocacy Committee, a combination of the former committees of Legislative/Legal Rights and Grassroots. Bill Greenawalt of the Glatfelter Agency has been appointed as the chairman of the committee for 2017.
One of the primary goals of the committee is to identify one employee in every ABC member company, to whom we can disseminate advocacy related information and invite to government affairs events such as Free Enterprise Day and ABC National’s annual Legislative Conference.
With that being said, we greatly appreciate your willingness to identify a representative in your company as an ABC government affairs advocacy contact. You can do so by contacting our Government Affairs Coordinator, JD Bruno, with the name and contact information of your company’s representative.
New and long-standing members alike routinely tell us that the two primary reasons they join ABC are for education/training and advocacy. ABC has a long tradition of uniquely fighting for free enterprise and the merit shop in the construction related industry – one of the only organizations in the nation to do so. If we are to achieve our advocacy program’s mission of advancing free enterprise and the merit shop philosophy, we must have a robust grassroots program. A grassroots contact person in your company will go a long way in helping us build this critical program!
To be clear, we are not asking for a point of contact to donate money to our political action programs, or other campaign committees. We only want the point of contact to disseminate throughout the company information that is non-partisan and talks about critical ABC issues such as Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), apprenticeship reform, paycheck protection, and prevailing wage reform.
So we encourage you to contact Bryan and sign up as a point of contact, or share with a co-worker or employee that may be interested. The more grassroots support we have among our members, the more effective we will be as an association for all!
