In these unparalleled times, your service and membership with the Associated Builders and Contractors is greatly appreciated. While our methods have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to be engaged at all levels of government. In fact, in the past month, we have seen record actions from our members. On behalf of ABC Pennsylvania, thank you for stepping up in the middle of a crisis to let your voice be heard.

Over the last 30 days, ABC Pennsylvania implemented a robust and comprehensive action plan that incorporated grassroots, media, and direct and indirect communications to elected officials. We sent emails and letters, placed phone calls, issued press releases, partnered with 20 industry associations on a joint statement, leveraged social media, conducted television, radio, and newspapers interviews – and more – in response to the impact the Governor’s COVID-19 Order is having on our industry. Of note, the five action alerts we issued generated nearly 1,700 messages to the governor and legislature!

ABC Pennsylvania is leading and being proactive to ensure safety measures are incorporated at jobsites. We knew and understood precautions would need to be taken after the Governor’s Order was lifted. That’s why we created a COVID-19 Construction Safety Task Force made up of safety leaders. The Task Force was charged with creating a comprehensive health and safety document that provided guidance, best practices, and standards both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The report was distributed to the governor, legislature and other interested parties to share resources and ensure workers and jobsites are safe and provided helpful information for the final guidelines issued by the governor.

While the times are tough, please continue to be engaged and let your elected officials know your opinions, your challenges, and your stories. It is important our government leaders understand the impact their decisions have on your business and the broader economy. I also want to hear from you. You are the experts in the field, and as Director of Government Affairs, it is important for me to learn, know, and understand the “pulse” of our membership. If you have concerns, comments or questions, please reach out to me anytime. I welcome your feedback. I can be reached at davidg@abcpa.org.

Thank you again for your membership. Stay safe, stay informed, and stay engaged. If you are not signed-up to receive advocacy email alerts, please download the “ABC Action App” from the app store on your mobile device, or at abc.org/abcaction.
