Apprentice Spotlight | Bill Johnston
Bill Johnston – Electrical 4 – C Mechanical Services
What made you choose the trade you are learning?
I chose electrical because of previous experience in low voltage systems, and it was a transition into a career with more potential for growth.
What is your favorite thing you have learned in your apprenticeship program so far?
Bending conduit to match what someone else did, as well as the hidden math involved daily that I swore I would never use after high school.
What is one thing that surprised you about the trade you are learning?
How quickly I’ve gone from gofer to site lead, and how trusted I’ve become to keep the schedule close and wrangle subs and other apprentices.
What motivates you to work hard?
Providing a career projection for my kids, and my scout pack aside from a more traditional degree.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully on this side of the grass. But in all seriousness, preparing for my masters test to open up more opportunities.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time/hobbies?
I’m involved in scouting with both of my kids.
Are you a morning person or night person?
Absolutely a night owl. Sitcom reruns are a lot better than daytime talk shows.
