NOTICE:
All participants are required to wear work boots, long pants (such as work pants or jeans) and sleeved shirts. Participants must bring a hard hat and safety glasses for use when in the training area.


Stay Ahead in the Evolving HVACR Industry
With traditional refrigerants being phased out, Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) alternatives—many of which are mildly or highly flammable—are becoming the new standard. This course provides essential safety training for working with A2L and A3 refrigerants.

Course Topics Include:

  • Refrigerant safety
  • Introduction to Low GWP refrigerants
  • Refrigerant properties and characteristics
  • The refrigeration cycle
  • Working with refrigerant blends
  • Proper installation and service guidelines
  • Flammable refrigerant considerations

Exam: A 50-question, closed-book exam validates your knowledge in:

  • General Flammable Refrigerant Safety Knowledge
  • Core ACR Knowledge
  • Flammable System Service Safety
  • Flammable System Installation Safety
  • Flammable Refrigerant Transportation and Handling Safety

Instructor:

Derek Robbins, ABC Keystone Director of HVAC

Derek, ABC Keystone’s 2025 ABC National Instructor of the Year, joined the Apprenticeship Program in August 2021 as an HVAC instructor and now serves as Director of HVAC. With over 15 years of HVAC/R experience and an EPA608 Universal Certification, Derek previously taught at Technology Learning Center and Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School in Massachusetts. At ABC, he leads students in HVAC/R installation, service, maintenance, and troubleshooting for both residential and commercial systems.
