FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 8, 2017

(MANHEIM, Pa.) The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced the winners of its 2017 Safety Training & Evaluation (STEP) Awards on May 4. Representatives from the award-winning companies accepted their awards at the ABC Safety Awards Dinner held at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel.

“Associated Builders and Contractors is thrilled to honor this prestigious group of Pennsylvania contractors for their commitment to protecting their workers through aggressive job safety and health programs,” said ABC Keystone Chapter’s Vice President, Education & Workforce Development, G. David Sload. “ABC’s goal is to send every construction industry employee home in the same—or better—condition than which they arrived, and we applaud the companywide commitment to jobsite safety made by each of these award-winning member companies.”

The anchor of ABC’s Safety Awards program is a national model called STEP (Safety Training & Evaluation Process), the only such program in the country that provides companies a structured approach to benchmark and improve their safety efforts.

STEP was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. The goal of the program is to provide an organized approach to analyze and further develop a company’s safety and loss prevention. Participating ABC member firms measure their safety processes and policies on 20 key components through a detailed questionnaire with the goal of implementing or enhancing safety programs that reduce jobsite incidence rates. The STEP process is a critical component of having a world-class safety program, and that return on investment for companies participating in the STEP program is enormous.

Those that completed the 2017 STEP application are recognized at levels of Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
