Featured Apprentice: Melissa Turano,
Plumbing 2 Apprentice, ABC Keystone, Protech Mechanical Contractors, Inc.

Meet Melissa!

“I was working as a Property Management Technician for a corporate company when I found the apprenticeship program for ABC. I wanted a career with the potential for growth in the industry, and I filled out the application and took my entrance exam. I immediately knew this was something I wanted to do.

I enjoy the critical thinking involved with my chosen trade of plumbing. It pushes you to think outside the box at times and rely on communication with your peers to make it all work. I absolutely love math as well, which is a huge part of my job!

I love applying the knowledge from the classroom as well as from the hands-on experience. It’s rewarding to see the finished product and be able to take a step back and look at the work I’ve done. Setting fixtures (toilets, sinks, water heaters etc.) is one of my favorite things to do. It gives me a sense of confidence, and I am really proud of myself!

The Keystone Chapter celebrates all of our apprentices, and we honor the women in our program this week as we celebrate Women in Construction Week. To learn more about apprenticeship at ABC, please visit abckeystonecenter.org.
