Manheim, Pa, April 20, 2022—ABC Keystone is pleased to announce the Chapter was recently nominated and selected by the Berks Connections/Pretrial Services (BCPS) award committee to receive the Paul J. Hoh Life Improvement Award. The Paul J. Hoh Life Improvement Award recognizes an individual, organization or employer that has furthered the mission of BCPS by improving the lives of incarcerated individuals, reentrants, and their families. Paul Hoh, the award’s namesake, is one of BCPS’s founders and was the first board president. The award was presented at the Annual Life Improvement Breakfast on April 19, 2022.

ABC Keystone’s Stephanie Larkin (Lemoyne), vice president of education, safety & workforce development, accepted the award on behalf of ABC Keystone for her work helping to create pathways into the construction industry for Rebuilding Reentrants and Reading (R3) graduates. Stephanie was instrumental in developing BCPS’s R3 program into a registered pre-apprenticeship program.

According to the Berks Connections website, the R3 registered pre-apprenticeship program “offers an opportunity for individuals with a criminal history to acquire skills in the construction trades that lead to gainful employment and assists with the renovation of some of the City of Reading’s blighted neighborhoods – literally rebuilding lives and a neighborhood simultaneously. The program is funded through a U.S. Department of Labor Reentry Training Grant, the County of Berks and grants from the Berks County Workforce Development Board and PA Department of Labor & Industry.”

“ABC Keystone is dedicated to promoting careers in construction as inclusive career opportunities, and the Chapter is honored to receive this award from BCPS. Stephanie’s commitment to facilitating pre-apprenticeship connections is commendable, and we look forward to following the success of the program’s pre-apprenticeship participants,” said ABC Keystone’s president-ceo, G. David Sload.
