ABC Keystone’s Apprenticeship staff members are gearing up for another successful year of classes! In August, we welcomed Derek Robbins as a full time HVAC Instructor (all levels) and as a Sheet Metal Level 1 Instructor. We are pleased to share that Derek is EPA-certified which will provide HVAC Level 1 apprentices the opportunity to prepare for and take the EPA608 Universal Certification exam. Derek and our instructors are busy preparing for the start of the school year with classes beginning just after Labor Day.

The Keystone Chapter has a strong tradition of training Champions, several of which have brought home gold, silver and bronze medals earned at the annual ABC National Craft Championship. Each year, we send a team of top apprentices to this event. Throughout the final three months of 2020, training was once again in full gear. ABC Keystone’s 2021 National Craft Competition (NCC) team put in countless weekend hours preparing for the competition that was to be held concurrently with the ABC National Convention in March 2021. It was certainly a disappointment to all to hear the news in January that although the 2021 convention will go on as planned, the competition had to be canceled again this year due to COVID-19 safety concerns.process of a task or project to help identify waste and eliminate it. While eliminating waste in an organization can sound negative, it is not. Eliminating waste is essential to aid the development of employees and increase organizational efficiency.

Though not in the league with other holidays like “National Donut Day” (which is June 4, 2021 – mark your calendars), without CTE your company and the construction industry would not survive.

In October, ABC Keystone celebrated Careers in Construction Month, dedicated to the many paths available for pursuing opportunities in our great industry. Earlier in November, the Chapter celebrated National Apprenticeship Week. These celebrations of construction careers continue, as every week, apprentices enter the Chapter’s training facility to learn from their instructors the many facets of their trades, each of them striving to build their own skills and futures. Local Apprentices Take Top Awards at ABC Keystone Apprenticeship Competition

ABC Keystone Top Scorers 2020 Craft Competition

(MANHEIM, Pa.) Five local apprentices received top scores at the ABC Keystone Annual Craft Competition on Saturday, September 26, 2020, held at the Chapter’s training facility in Manheim. Earning the top scores in their respective trades provides these apprentices the opportunity to move on to the 2021 ABC National Craft Competition (NCC) to be held March 9-11, 2021, in Gaylord, Texas. This year, two of the Chapter’s carpentry apprentices received tied scores, and both with be joining ABC Keystone’s NCC team in March.

What will the 2020/2021 school year look like? The good news is we have learned a lot from having to finish the 2019/2020 year virtually due to COVID-19.

ABC is excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Chapter’s new Pipefitting Apprenticeship program. Starting in September 2020, Pipefitting curriculum will be added for members who want the choice of having a pipefitter registered with the Department of Labor & Industry.
