Seminar Description:

This is a continuation of the May Safety Forum focusing on the Opioid Crisis in the Workplace. This forum will focus solely on the employers’ written policies and how to manage prescription medications, including opioids and medical marijuana. A discussion will be held following the presentation in order to answer any additional questions that the employers may have regarding the topic.


Who Should Attend:

Anyone that is directly related to the creation and oversight of an drug and alcohol policy, specifically human resources, safety officers, business owners, and any other company official with this responsibility.


Presenters:

James F. Devine, is a partner at Cipriani & Werner’s Lancaster office. With almost 25 years of litigation experience, he concentrates his practice in workers’ compensation and employment law matters. His broad range of experience includes handling cases involving the interplay between the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and employment law concerns surrounding discipline and discharge and drug and alcohol abuse. Mr. Devine also has extensive experience defending employers in EEOC and PHRC claims. In addition to maintaining a full caseload, he is a popular speaker, lecturing throughout the year on current employment law issues including discrimination, harassment, internet policies and the maintenance of an aging workforce.  Mr. Devine also provides in-house training for insurance carriers and specialized employers, such as hospitals, to keep staff updated on case law and other issues resulting from legislative updates to the ADA, FMLA, EFCA, HIPAA and COBRA. He received his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1990 and his J.D. from University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1993.

Ryan J. Murphy, defends employers throughout Pennsylvania against Workers’ Compensation, unemployment compensation cases, and other employment matters, including pre-litigation counseling litigation and the appeal process. He represents private businesses ranging in size from individually-owned to large, multi-national corporations. He has also advised various state agencies in the defense of their workers’ compensation claims and worked with those entities to limit their exposure. Mr. Murphy’s representative clients include employers in the construction, fabrication, automotive, and retail industries, temporary employment agencies, law enforcement, and governmental entities. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Lancaster County Bar Association, the Schuylkill County Bar Association, and the York County Bar Association. Ryan received his Bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University and his J.D., cum laude, from The Dickinson School of Law.
