November brings ABC’s premier event – the EIC Awards Gala. Some compare it to the Oscars or the Emmys, but we refer to it as our “Excellence in Construction Awards.” Just like the Oscars, we have our own award categories. Unlike the Oscars, we award more than just the “Best” in each category. Which projects will win the coveted Excellence Award, and which projects will win a Merit Award? Attend and find out! And, at the end of the night, the main event will take place – the question “Which project and contractor will walk away with the Project of the Year Award?” will be answered. Even I don’t know the answer to that one prior to its announcement that evening.

Did I say “premier event?” It is that and more. This is a night when we celebrate excellence in design, schedule and craftsmanship. Every year, I am amazed and proud of what our members build. We, the “merit shop” voice, show that we design and build the best of the best. We show that we perform on time and under budget – even during extreme circumstances.

These Excellence Award winners are so much more than just the name on the trophy. They represent a well-oiled machine of design professionals, general contractors, and specialty contractors and suppliers. It is truly a collaboration of minds and skills whose work will stand for decades to come. While only approximately 80 awards will be given out, these awards will represent hundreds of companies throughout our chapter footprint. When I see these projects, I can say these teams knocked it out of the park.

It doesn’t end on this night. All projects that win an Excellence award can be entered in the National ABC EIC program. Having had the opportunity to attend several of these programs over the last 20 year, I am always proud to see the number of National awards that the Keystone Chapter members win. Not only are our members building some of the best of the best buildings in our region, our members are also building some of the best buildings in this country.

If you are one of the firms that walk away with an Excellence award on the 6th, I highly recommend that you submit your project for the National EIC program. These awards are a great marketing tool for your company and show where you stand with your peers. It is exciting every time I walk into a member’s office and see those coveted eagles.
