MANHEIM, Pa, May 5, 2021 – Twelve deserving individuals were recently awarded scholarships from the Merit Shop Training and Research Center (MSTRC). The $14,500 in scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year brings the total to $550,350 that has been awarded by MSTRC since its inception, helping students entering a career path in the construction industry.

The Associated Builders and Contractors Keystone Chapter is pleased to announce that nearly 60-65% of the Chapter’s electrical energy is now sourced through sustainable solar resources following the installation of a rooftop solar array. ABC Keystone’s 31,000 square foot training facility, built in 2015, was constructed with green energy sources in mind. This solar array, installed on December 3, 2020, is the culmination of this goal.

The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) recognized local member contractor firms for their work performed on regional construction projects during the 31st annual ABC Excellence in Construction Awards Ceremony. This event, which typically draws nearly 400 attendees, was held virtually this year. The celebration aired December 10, 2020, and it was broadcast virtually via YouTube Live to contractors, project owners, design professionals and invited guests. Senator Pat Toomey (U.S. Senate) and Congressman Lloyd Smucker (U.S. House of Representatives) each sent in virtual congratulations videos for the presentation. (MANHEIM, Pa.) Five local apprentices received top scores at the ABC Keystone Annual Craft Competition on Saturday, September 26, 2020, held at the Chapter’s training facility in Manheim. Earning the top scores in their respective trades provides these apprentices the opportunity to move on to the 2021 ABC National Craft Competition (NCC) to be held March 9-11, 2021, in Gaylord, Texas. This year, two of the Chapter’s carpentry apprentices received tied scores, and both with be joining ABC Keystone’s NCC team in March.

Associated Builders and Contractors Keystone Chapter recently announced the launch of the Safe and Healthy Construction Pledge, an industry-wide call to action to redouble construction jobsite safety commitments under new protocols due to the coronavirus outbreak. Open to all U.S. contractors and industry associations, the pledge calls for prevention, preparedness, and response plans to prevent injuries and disease and safeguard total human health.
